It looks like former WWE Diva Mickie James has left TNA, per a report earlier today.
Jason Powell at ProWrestling.net writes the Knockout parted ways with America's No. 2 wrestling promotion after her contract expired and she failed to agree to a new deal with management:
The TNA contract of Mickie James has expired, making her a free agent as of today. TNA made an offer to James that she rejected. She signed with TNA in September 2010.
James' exit is surely a blow to TNA's Knockout division, which has lost Tara, Taryn Terrell, Brooke Hogan, Madison Rayne, Taeler Hendrix and So Cal Val in the last few months alone. At this point, there are barely any women left.
Of course, it may not be a surprise that James and TNA failed to come to terms.
As is well known, the company is undergoing extreme cost-cutting measures right now. And, thanks to her WWE exposure, James can command high prices on the U.S. indies and fan convention scene. She doesn't need to take any offer TNA gives her.
She also has her moderately successful music career in country music to fall back on.
Due to this news, talk will inevitably turn to whether James could make a WWE return soon.
Certainly, during her 2005-2010 stint, she was one of the most popular and charismatic Divas on the roster. But you also have to consider the star is 34, which isn't a positive sign considering how WWE seems to overwhelmingly prefer younger women.
Per reports, she also left the company in 2010 under less than amicable circumstances, with allegations abounding that she had developed an ego and was disruptive backstage.
