Following the latest happenings for WWE 2K14 is an exercise in patience as fans continue to get teased with information but not the entire picture.
Fans hungry to jump into the game's full features and full roster will have to wait until the Oct. 29 North American release date to do so. For now, there are some tasty tidbits out there to satisfy them.
A reveal of the many matches in the 30 Years of WrestleMania mode, word of a possible Undertaker-centered mode and another reason to spend hours creating fictional wrestlers are among the highlights of the most recent word on the WWE video game.
Fans already know that The Rock vs. John Cena and Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan will be a part of the 30 Years of WrestleMania mode, but when are we going to find out what the rest of the 45 matches are?
Bleacher Report's own Brian Mazique has you covered.
Teaming with 2K Sports, Mazique will reveal portions of the mode's match list over the next week. There are some mighty tasty matches on the first list Mazique shared.
- Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd
- Hulk Hogan vs. King Kong Bundy
- Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage
- Andre the Giant vs. Hulk Hogan
- Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase
- Randy Savage vs. Hulk Hogan
- Hulk Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior
- Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter
- Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair
- Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna/Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna
Gamers had to know that the classic Steamboat vs. Savage match from WrestleMania III would be on there. Savage's other matches, including his great bout against Flair at WrestleMania VIII, are welcome additions as well.
Even the matches that weren't very fun to watch promise to be fun to play.
Playing the Andre vs. Studd bodyslam challenge match is going to get the nostalgia neurons firing, and even Hart vs. Yokozuna will be a refreshing matchup to jump into.
Scrolling through the leaked list of achievements, per VG247, for WWE 2K14 on XBOX 360 reveals some intriguing challenges and potentially two modes centered around The Undertaker.
Players will have items like cashing in the Money in the Bank with a custom superstar, breaking a table with an OMG move and establishing a rivalry on their checklists. It's the many items mentioning The Undertaker that are the most interesting, though.
The achievements seem to refer to both a Defeat the Streak and Defend the Streak mode where a player either works their way up to knocking off The Undertaker at WrestleMania or reliving his unprecedented undefeated streak.
If this turns out to be true, it gives the game great depth.
It would make this game a true celebration of WrestleMania even if names like Roddy Piper and Kurt Angle aren't available.
The create-a-wrestler interface appears to have a fun addition.
The achievement list on VG247 mentions Superstar heads being added to created wrestlers. One could go the silly route and paste Mark Henry's head onto Rey Mysterio's body or make alternate versions of the men and women on the roster.
The additional option isn't groundbreaking, but it certainly means some folks are going be spending more time creating Superstars and sharing their goofy creations via YouTube.
If you caught the latest edition of Ring Rust Radio, you heard "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase talk about, among other things, what being in WWE video games means to him.
DiBiase, who appears in the 30 Years of WrestleMania mode, tells the story of a young boy recognizing him. How does a kid born long after DiBiase's prime know who he is?
The answer is video games.
A new generation of fans will learn about DiBiase and WWE history in general through WWE 2K14. They will get to experience WrestleMania's matches as well as clamp the Million Dollar Dream on any number of opponents.
DiBiase also said of his WWE 2K14 experience, "I'm thrilled I'm in the new game and, as the 'Million Dollar Man' says, everyone's got a price and I'll get a pretty nice royalty check."
As for when the full roster will be revealed, there's only a vague answer. Creative Director for WWE 2K Games Cory Ledesma tweeted the following.
There's still a lot more of the current roster going to be revealed at some point this month. I know you're all anxious. Hang tough #WWE2K14— Cory Ledesma (@RealCoryLedesma) September 9, 2013
The only information we can glean from this is that we won't have to wait until October to see who else from the WWE world will appear in the game. Before Battleground kicks off, fans will apparently know every character available to them.
Don't get too pumped, though.
Were 2K Sports sitting on a bombshell of a roster addition, it would have likely already revealed it. So think more Zack Ryder than Curt Hennig.
