Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has reason to celebrate regardless of how he performs on the field against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.
Shortly before kickoff, the Ravens announced on Twitter that Flacco's wife, Dana, gave birth to the newest member of the family. It's the couple's second child, both boys.
Ryan Mink of the team's official site provided more information:
Flacco knew there was a chance she could go into labor, but came to M&T Bank Stadium as usual. He was going through pregame warm-ups when the team pulled him off the field and put him on the phone with his wife.
Dana told the quarterback, "We have another boy." She gave birth at 11:50 a.m.
The name of the baby wasn't immediately released, but he'll have an older brother, Stephen, who's about 15 months old, according to the report.
As mentioned, Flacco is playing in Sunday's game against the Browns after receiving the news about the birth of his second child. Word that both his wife and new son are doing well probably eased any concerns he had about playing the game.
It's been a remarkable stretch for Flacco. The 28-year-old New Jersey native had his first son last year, proceeded to lead the Ravens on an unexpected journey through the playoffs, which resulted in a Super Bowl triumph, and he now has another healthy son.
During the offseason, the team rewarded him with a long-term contract extension that will pay him upward of $120 million over six seasons. The new deal represents the type of commitment quarterbacks receive when they enjoy playoff success.
Add in his growing family, and Flacco is clearly going through a very bright time in his life. The Ravens are playing at home this week, which will allow him to hit the road immediately after the final whistle to meet his son.
A win over the Browns would just be a bonus.
