Sunderland 1-3 Arsenal
Goals: Olivier Giroud, 10' (0-1), Craig Gardner penalty, 47' (1-1), Aaron Ramsey 67' (1-2), Aaron Ramsey 75' (1-3).
Arsenal won their first game with Mesut Ozil in the team after a terrific battle with Sunderland. Ozil claimed an assist just 10 minutes into his Gunners career with some great control and vision, well-dispatched by the in-form Olivier Giroud.
The away side should have been out of sight by half-time, but a quick-fire penalty after the break changed the momentum of the match. A second-half brace from Ramsey sealed the win, though a controversial refereeing decision denied Jozy Altidore an equaliser that would have made it 2-2.
Sunderland: Westwood, Celustka, Colback, Roberge, Diakite, Vaughan (Gardner), Mavrias, Ki, Johnson, Fletcher, Altidore.
Arsenal: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Sagna, Koscielny, Gibbs, Flamini, Ramsey, Wilshere, Ozil, Walcott, Giroud.
So Arsenal take the points in the end; they've made it harder than they might have but nonetheless thoroughly deserved the victory today.
Sunderland need much work if they are going to improve from a dreadful start to the season which has seen them take just one point from four matches, and score only one single penalty from two home games.

Sunderland 1-3 Arsenal
It's not ending well for Sunderland who have had manager Paolo Di Canio sent to the stands for arguing with the assistant and then the referee.
Four minutes added on
88'—On comes Nacho Monreal for his token two minute appearance.
85'—Borini sees a shot blocked and Sunderland are still gamely trying to find a way back into the game, though it looks a false hope now. Into the final five.
81'—Final minutes of the game now and Arsenal looking comfortable once again. It's been a long time coming, though. This could have been the halftime scoreline in all fairness.
Ozil is off for Arsenal, rested for the final 10 minutes with the game now wrapped up. Thomas Vermaelen is on.
And Sunderland's hopes of a comeback are extinguished. Lovely interchange of passes from Arsenal on the edge of the box and it ends with a through-ball for Ramsey to run onto, in from the left, and he calmly slots the ball past Westwood for 3-1.

Aaron Ramsey, 75 mins
73'—Another close call for Sunderland as Gardner makes a great run behind the defence, but his cross-shot is ahead of the forwards and just wide of the far post.
72'—Fabio Borini is on for Sunderland as they search another equalising goal.
70'—CONTROVERSY! Sunderland have the ball in the net after Altidore rolls Sagna and just about beats the keeper with a low shot, but the referee blows his whistle after the shot is taken and calls back play...for a Sunderland free kick. The home fans furious and rightly so. Sunderland denied an equalising goal, rubbish refereeing.
And Arsenal are suddenly back in front! Jenkinson knocks it back to the edge of the area and Aaron Ramsey swivels to fire in an unstoppable low volley, a fantastic hit!

Aaron Ramsey, 67 mins
64'—Arsenal have had a bit of pressure themselves over the past few minutes. Ozil probes right and left, looking for a through pass or a space to exploit, but Sunderland are compact and tight and have the bonus of something to hold onto now.
60'—Sunderland close to a second—twice! The home side are a different team since the break. First Fletcher pokes into the net from five yards out, but he's ruled out (correctly) for offside. Then, an inswinging free kick evades everybody, beats Szczesny, hits the post, bounces back over the keeper, past the onrushing Ki, bounces across the line and spins wide of the far post. Incredible stuff.
55'—Arsenal trying to regain control of things with a quick counter attack, but Walcott again can't make the most of a good position.
51'—And suddenly Sunderland are playing with a bit of pace, tempo and drive to their game. What a turnaround from their performance before the break, and all because of a moment of madness from Koscielny.
Craig Gardner levels matters from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way, after Laurent Koscielny brought down Adam Johnson inside the box with a slide tackle. Poor, clumsy challenge from the Arsenal man, and Sunderland are level are basically doing nothing at all for 47 minutes.
