It has been a vicious fan vote campaign for the coveted honor of racing in NASCAR's elite race, the All Star Showdown.
Sure, there are no points involved in NASCAR's version of the best racers of all competing in a fan-friendly format.
But there are bragging rights involved, especially since the race takes place in the home of racing, Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC.
And, oh by the way, the winner of the race also gets $1 million. So, there is just a little incentive there as well.
For those drivers unable to qualify their way into the show, however, there is now only one way left to get into the race. The fan vote will determine the last and final driver to race in the All Star competition.
It has been a brutal campaign period, full of race car drivers, their spouses and even their pets pulling out all the stops to turn out the vote.
A.J. Allmendinger has resorted to giving out his sponsor's pizza in order to get fan votes. His wife Lynne has been sporting a T-shirt that urges all to vote for her husband.
A.J. admitted that Lynne has not taken the T-shirt off now for a few days. She is apparently using some body spray and perfume to make the best of that situation.
Elliott Sadler has promised fans they can dunk him in a dunk tank if they just vote him into the race. The other Elliott, Awesome Bill Elliott has been campaigning actively on his Web site for his votes.
Young rookie Joey Logano also ran an aggressive campaign, using his Web site, Facebook, and Twitter to assert his dominance.
When all was said and done, the fans did indeed speak. And young Logano, after receiving the highest number of votes, will indeed get into the big show, NASCAR's All Star Race.
