England were far from convincing in their 0-0 draw with Ukraine. They lacked cohesion in midfield and the spark we might expect from Arsenal's Jack Wilshere never arrived.
There were notable defensive performances, but England appeared a collection of individuals unable to find a rhythm in their play, for the most part. Thank goodness for their tenacity and stubbornness in the face of Ukrainian pressure.
Technically speaking, it was yet another case of England stuttering when it mattered most, but the result was all-important and Roy Hodgson's men have World Cup qualification in their hands going into the final stretch.
