Red Card of the Week: Giovanni Trapattoni

Following disappointing World Cup qualifier defeats to Austria and Sweden, the Football Association of Ireland have shown a red card to national team manager Giovanni Trapattoni, per BBC Sport.

The 74-year-old has had five years to try and recreate some of the magic he produced in Italy—he has won more Serie A titles than any other manager—but the relationship came to an end in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after a 1-0 defeat in Austria made it virtually impossible for Ireland to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

Trap's legacy in Ireland now amounts to a Nations Cup in 2011, a place at Euro 2012, a few alienated players and the disenchantment of Green Army fans who hoped for so much more.

Check out our Red Card of the Week video, then have your say about Trap and the future of the Irish national team below.
