Breaking Down the Latest Liverpool January Transfer Rumours
Liverpool's bright start to the Premier League campaign hasn't stopped the January transfer rumours from rolling in.
The Reds manged to make an number of signings this summer, adding the likes of Simon Mignolet and Iago Aspas on full deals, while Aly Cissokho and Victor Moses came on loan. The January window will give the club the chance to strengthen as needed in order to get into a Champions League position.
If any of these rumours become a reality, Liverpool may face one or two departures as well.
Here are the latest January transfer rumours involving Liverpool.
Liverpool Face a Battle to Sign Keisuke Honda
The Japanese midfielder would be an interesting option for the Reds as he is capable of playing in an attacking midfield position, as well as in a deeper-lying role. Honda would come at a reasonable fee, given his contract situation at his current club.
His arrival would allow Brendan Rodgers even more flexibility in his attacking options—Honda could play behind an attacking trio of Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez (if he stays).
Iago Aspas and Victor Moses would provide good options off the bench and could rotate to start as well.
Clubs Still Interested in Luis Suarez
John Cross of the Mirror writes that Arsenal may return for the Uruguayan forward as well.
All that interest could lead to an eventual sale, but Liverpool will be keen to hold on to one of their best talents.
The Reds will know by January whether keeping Luis Suarez around is the right choice, given his history.
If the interest becomes a reality, the best bet may be to sell him and find a suitable replacement.
Diego Costa Says No Move Will Occur
The Reds reportedly bid for the Brazilian striker late in the summer transfer window, but no deal occurred.
Costa played a vital role for Atletico Madrid last season alongside Falcao and will be looking to strike up a similar partnership with David Villa.
Will Hughes on Liverpool Radar
The Reds were interested in the 18-year-old midfielder during the summer, but no move was finalised. Hughes may not play a part in the first team if he joins, though it's a possibility given Brendan Rodgers' faith in players such as Raheem Sterling.
He would add to the number of young English talents in the squad, including Sterling, Jordon Ibe and Andre Wisdom.
