The Oklahoma Sooners have found themselves in a quarterback crisis after the first couple of weeks of the season. After the injury to starting quarterback Trevor Knight in the Sooners' matchup with West Virginia last Saturday, Blake Bell is expected to take the reigns of the Sooners offense for the time being.

But there may be another option for the Sooners at QB.

A highly unknown, yet viable option for the Sooners is Kendal Thompson. Thompson, a 6'1", 199-pound freshman from Oklahoma City, Okla., could very well earn his stripes in the upcoming weeks.

The name "Thompson" may sound a little familiar. This is because Thompson's father is none other than former Sooners QB Charles Thompson

Just like his father, Thompson is a dual threat quarterback with both rushing and passing capabilities.

According to Jake Trotter on, Thompson was expected to be in the running for the starting job at QB for the Sooners this preseason, but he suffered a fractured right foot on the first day of practice.

Though Bell has been viewed as the favorite to win the job because of experience, Thompson and Knight have each received equal snaps during the offseason. Thompson had a strong spring game performance in April, completing 8 of 15 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.

After a successful surgery during preseason, Thompson has been cleared to play for the Sooners just in the nick of time. His performance this week could determine whether he finds any action in the Sooners' upcoming matchup with Tulsa.

With the season still in its adolescence, Thompson will have a great opportunity to attain starting honors at the QB position. It all depends on Bell's performance in his start against Tulsa this Saturday and Thompson's ability to impress coaches and instill their faith in him during practice.

Needless to say, there are a lot of questions to be answered for the Sooners' QB situation, and Kendal Thompson is one player to keep an eye on.
