The Phoenix Suns are poised to be the West's worst once more, but can that actually be part of a successful plan?
Eric Bledsoe was an exciting, athletic acquisition to pair with Goran Dragic in the backcourt. Michael Beasley's release was addition by subtraction of the highest order. Gerald Green and Miles Plumlee might just be guys for Phoenix to take a quick flier on, but rookies Archie Goodwin and Alex Len could be long-term parts.
Yet, the roster is still a mess in a big way.
Marcin Gortat is left hanging in the wind at center. There's no way he lasts through the year without being traded. How many stretch 4s does this team need with Marcus and Markieff Morris, plus a presumably healthy Channing Frye, all being basically the same player?
New coach Jeff Hornacek says these will be run-and-gun Suns like the desert teams of old, but they won't be winning many games in 2013-14. With a stacked draft class and plenty of franchise changers waiting over the horizon though, maybe that's exactly what Phoenix needs?
