This morning I read a couple of articles here on Bleacher that quite honestly annoyed me.
I'm forever reading articles by fans of Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, where the writers seem to have lost all sight of reality!
Chelsea fans are upset because they were only in contention for three trophies this season and not four!
That's not how they put it of course but that's what they're saying!
According to Chelsea's fans, had Jose Mourinho been in charge, they would have won it all! I don't know whether to laugh or shake my head at these sort of comments.
Manchester United have been superior to anyone this season, simple as that.
Chelsea got to the final of the League Cup and lost to the better side on the day! No crying about what Jose Mourinho would have done differently is going to change that.
Look back and be happy that you got to another cup final, as believe me, they will dry up eventually.
Look at it this way...
If you are around 25 you will already remember Newcastle United in the old second division as well as being one of the top two in England's top flight in the mid 90's.
Where were Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool then?
Nothing is forever, so enjoy it while it lasts...
Football is a funny old game and the bigger they are, the harder they fall!
Young Leeds United fans have never seen their club in the Premier League, but just a few years ago they were definitely amongst the top four sides in the country (and European contenders).
Now they languish in League One, fighting for promotion, just to get back to the Championship!
So come on English football fans, enjoy the success while it lasts and be glad you're part of one of football's greatest shows...
The English Premier League!

Too right! Liverpool vs Arsenal and Man utd vs Arsenal were truly two of if not the best games of the season. Ok Arsenal may have lost both, and yes that hurts. But hey Derby have won a European Cup neither Arsenal or Chelsea have, but I don't think I would swap places.
In 10 years time will the top 4 be the same? who knows. What I do know is that the league winners this year will be closer to 5th than last year. (unless drastic things happen on Merseyside).
the other teams are catching the top 4. Games against West ham and boro are no longer guaranteed 3 points.

Thanks Mark. Just had to get that off my chest. Thanks for adding to my arguement.

Thanks for the pick Mark.

Haha, I liked the bit about Leeds. My little brother runs into my room a couple days ago after looking at old Premier League information online and says, "Did you know Leeds used to be good?!?"

Spot on Andrew, couldn't have said it better myself!

Glad you enjoyed it Tim.

Almost spot on Andrew. We Chelsea fans dont all believe Jose would have done anything better than Grant. Ive said this before and i'll say it again, the people who say that are people who want easy and immediate success - in other words 'glory hunters'.
Although I partly do blame Roman for the mess we were in earlier in the season, its not because he sacked Jose but because he didnt appoint a suitable replacement. Sacking Jose for Grant, is like swapping a £20 note for a £5 note - quite frankly STUPID....
Other than that, your absolutely right!!

Sorry Salomon I know all Chelsea fans aren't as silly. Just after reading that article this morning, I couldn't believe it.
Thank you too for adding to my debate.

As a chelsea fan I do not know why anyone would say Jose would have won it all.......cos he has never!! But as Salomon said....Grant for Mourinho wasn't the best move. Thanks for the reminder tho Andrew!

Glad to hear you aren't all mad :) thanks Osahon

Chelsea fans have to realise that Grant cannot be blamed for their Cup Final exit. Spurs were excellent and throughly deserved the win and to be realistic Grant probably didn't name the squad himself. Wasn't Jose complaining before his exit about Boardroom interference

I agree with the sentiments in the main Andrew, one point though, Liverpool were still very much a major force in the mid 90's.
Liverpool were 4th in 1995 and 3rd in 1996 and 4th in 1997. Liverpool won the league cup in 1995, and lost in the final of the FA Cup in 1996. In fact, in the pre 'big 4' days - ie when fewer teams qualified for the Champions League - Roy Evans actually did a mighty fine job as Liverpool manager, they would have qualified 3 years running under the current rules.
Ironically, in putting you right on that point I have exhibited some of the very sentiments that you are arguing against :-), but I totally agree that football is cyclical, and no fan of any club should take anything for granted. (except maybe Rangers & Celtic, that must be nice!)

Thanks Simon. I didn't mean to put Liverpool down Simon but just to say it used to be two teams now it's four so to speak. Nothing is constant forever.
As for Rangers and Celtic, Hearts proved a few years back not even that is constant.

Great Article. Spot On, Leeds is the perfect example, from the top of top to the league 1, i really believe that in 5or6 years time they will be back into the premiere ship.

I agree...all great clubs come back...but they won't always be there.

Hey Andrew, while agreeing with your basic point that the fans should shut up and love the game, were some paragraphs excised from your copy? The headline complained about all the Big Four, but the copy was almost solely about Chelsea?
And from the point of view of wanting an enjoyable in-game experience instead of an end-of-the-game result, they have a right to complain. I mean, who can truly relish the upcoming 180 minutes of crushing boredom that is their semi-final tie with Liverpool?

Sorry mate I was trying to keep it short. I had read an article from a Chelsea fan and Man Utd fan that shocked me but the article took a twist in the end.

It is true, I think 2 of the big 4 will still be around fighting for the title consistently over the next 10 years, just like how Barca and Madrid are. I hope that will be Man Utd and Arsenal of course!!
from 5 months ago
Well Roman won't be around for ever and Liverpool are still to break the modern EPL mould. So Man Utd and Arsenal sounds right.

The story with Leeds is definitely a sad one and it's a shame what happened to such a team like Leeds. I remember back in the day when Leeds played Manchester United I would sit in front of the tube watching and cursing at the Leeds players each time they had the ball...all because I knew what a good team they were to play against. They had a solid midfield and some great goaltending [back in the day at least!].
Instead of concentrating on the big four I think the mid-table teams will be the ones making the most noise next year. Look for Everton, Man City, Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough to strengthen their squads...and hopefully Spurs can regroup and get a good start next season.
Exciting times indeed.
Man United and Chelsea will always have the resources to have consistently great squads and I think Arsenal will dip next year only to re-group and come back strong once again. They really need to re-think their squad. And Liverpool...will always be Liverpool :)

Thanks Shawn. Let's indeed hope that Everton etc step up...would be a fantastic season!
