First, trainer Todd Pletcher announced that Cross Traffic, the Whitney winner, would skip the Woodward and wait instead to use the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on Sept. 28 to prepare for the Breeders' Cup Classic. And then, on Thursday, trainer Ian Wilkes didn't like what he saw from Fort Larned, the winner of last year's Whitney and Breeders' Cup Classic, during a routine gallop. Wilkes scratched Fort Larned from Saturday's Woodward, deciding to wait instead for the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
