Jodie Meeks Bio

NAME: Jodie Meeks

SCHOOL: Kentucky

HEIGHT: 6-foot-4

WEIGHT: 208 pounds

SCOUTING REPORT: In one season, Meeks went from injury-plagued role player to All-American, finishing as the SEC’s leading scorer ranking eighth nationally during a breakthrough 2008-09 junior season. The Norcross, Ga., native, who missed 20 games with an ailing hip in 2007-08, averaged 8.7 points in his first 45 career contests with the Wildcats, but scored 39 in Kentucky’s season opener against VMI. He would finish averaging 23.7 points per game, while establishing career highs in field-goal percentage (46.3 percent), 3-point shooting (40.6) and free-throw percentage (90.2), and making a school-record 117 3-pointers. Undoubtedly his finest performance came Jan. 13 in a 90-72 win at Tennessee as he scored 54 points, breaking Dan Issel’s single-game school scoring record set in 1970, and set another Wildcats mark with 10 3-pointers. With two other 40-point efforts, the guard finished with three of the nation’s top six scoring performances of the season. He also had four more 30-point games and earned second team All-America honors. Meeks’ shooting talents are unquestioned, but he needs to improve his ball-handling skills after averaging 2.7 turnovers to 1.8 assists this past season. He is also a little undersized to play on the wing and is not expected to be picked until late in the first round or early in the second. The chance to improve his stock for next year’s draft and the lure of playing his final season under new Wildcats coach John Calipari could be enough to bring Meeks back to Lexington.
