It is STILL possible that a 50 win team will miss the playoffs. In itself, THAT, is crazy.
The Warriors beating the Suns would extend the Western conference season until Wednesday April 16th when the Denver Nuggets would get a chance, beginning at 6PM PT, to wrap up the eighth playoff spot by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies at home.
If the Nuggets should fail to clinch against the Grizz, the Warriors would have a chance to extend this epic battle until 1 AM ET on Thursday, April 17th.
Even IF the season ends at 8:30 PT in Denver, there is no way that Warrior fans should hang their heads and neither should the players.
Winning 50 games this season will go a long way for this squad. It will legitimize the 2008 Team as a winning club on the rise.
There has not been a 50 win season in "The Town" since 1993-94, when the Dubs went 50-32 under "The Don" Nelson. (They also went 55-27 under Nellie in '91-92)
The "Dubs" are one of the younger teams in the League and they have yet to play all of their players to their potential minutes in Don Nelson's rotation. I'd hate to be a team in the West that was getting old with Monta and Biedrins maturing.
You can add "Belly" and "B-Right" to the young nucleus who, once they find their way in this offense, and defense, will only make the Warriors better.
And don't forget about Patrick O'Bryant, who may be exactly what they are missing because of his size and skill set.
O'Bryant, Wright and Biedrins teamed up with Baron and Monta will give teams match up fits around the league, especially when Wright and O'Bryant are coming off the bench and spelling Jackson and Harrington.
Even if the present is a shade of grey, the organization is as strong as it has ever been and it is in great shape for the near future.
Beating the Suns will give them a shot at 50 wins. I mean, come on, 50 WINS!!!
50 wins is a standard in this league for "playoff" teams.
This season will be known as the eight month battle for the playoffs in the Western conference—the entire Western conference—from day one.
As a Warrior fan, I have been in a Playoff mentality since the day the team died in Utah last season and every game in 2008 has been a playoff game for me.
The Western conference playoffs promise to be one of the most entertaining ones ever. Each of the competing teams have been playing for their lives since day one and only the best eight will get in.
Winning tomorrow gives the Warriors a chance at 50 Wins and also a chance of life on Wednesday.
Let's Go Warriors!!!
