It has been nearly two months since Wrestlemania 25 and already a lot has changed since the granddaddy of them all took place in the beginning of April. Edge and Randy Orton both lost at Wrestlemania, however now both find themselves World Heavyweight Champion and WWE Champion respectively. The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels and Triple H were both in brutal matches at Wrestlemania, but now both are currently out of commission. Batista was still recovering from his injury at the hands of the Viper Randy Orton, and now the two will face off for the WWE Championship at Judgment Day.
However, there are some things that have indeed stayed the same. For instance, Rey Mysterio is still the Intercontinental Champion as he will defend his title against Chris Jericho at the pay-per-view. Also, CM Punk is still Mr. “Money in the Bank.” He won the briefcase for the second year in a row last month at Wrestlemania. So as “Mr. Money in the Bank,” Punk now has a target on his back. And no one has sought after this target more than Umaga. That’s right, the Samoan Bulldozer is back and looking hungrier than ever. It appears Umaga wants a fight because on two separate occasions he brutally attacked CM Punk from behind just as Punk had defeated Edge twice in non-title matches. The Straightedge Superstar was twice prevented from cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase as he had planned to cash it in while the Rated R Superstar was down on the canvas. But Umaga had other plans and made sure that Punk did no such thing by cowardly attacking Punk when he least expected it.
CM Punk is in uncharted waters going up against the 350 pound Samoan beast. However, he had no other choice but to challenge Umaga or else keep getting attacked. He wants to prove to everyone that he can defeat Umaga and legitimately challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship as he has proven he can beat Edge having defeated him three times (3-0). Umaga, however, seems to have a motive. He wants something more than just a match from CM Punk. He most likely wants the Money in the Bank briefcase that CM Punk owns. Although this match doesn’t have any stipulations as of yet, Umaga wants to prove that he can vie for the World Heavyweight Championship as well-and who better to set his sights on than CM Punk.
The best outcome for WWE is for this to be a long, hard fought match with Punk coming out on top. As the Money in the Bank winner, you probably won’t see CM Punk losing too many times until it is time for him to actually cash in the briefcase. That’s just how it’s been with the previous MITB winners. He already avenged his Backlash loss to Kane and has since defeated Edge twice. Now, he has to somehow stop the momentum of the Samoan Bulldozer, who is looking to take apart the Straightedge Superstar.
The buildup to this match has been above par, however the match will not be one of the most anticipated matches on the card for Judgment Day. The most anticipated match will probably be Randy Orton vs. Batista, followed by John Cena vs. the Big Show and Edge vs. Jeff Hardy. Remember, as of right now, there is nothing on the line in this match. If WWE decides to make a stipulation and put the briefcase on the line, then I would say it would be one of the top matches of the night. However, that is not the case. So the question remains can CM Punk overcome the power, strength, and agility of the Samoan Bulldozer, or will Umaga be just too much for the MITB winner? We’ll find out on Sunday night at Judgment Day. It’s definitely worth watching.
