From Joe Bernstein of the Daily Mail:

Everton have agreed a £15 million deal for Porto midfielder Fernando – thus paving the way for Marouane Fellaini's departure to Manchester United.

Anxious United fans were wondering why there had been little news about Fellaini on Monday morning but the reason was Everton boss Roberto Martinez was waiting to complete a deal to bring Fernando to Goodison Park.

Brazilian Fernando—nicknamed Polvo (The Octopus) because of his leggy style—had a year left on his contract in Portugal and it is believed for that reason Everton have been able to sign him for under the player's €30 million buy-out clause.

From Simon Rice of the Independent:

It's understood that Belgium have allowed midfielder Marouane Fellaini to delay linking up with the national squad so that he can complete his move to Manchester United.

With the transfer window deadline looming, it's believed that a deal will be concluded later today, with talks between Everton and United "progressing" according to BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty.

UPDATE: Monday, September 2, at 12:13 p.m. BST

From Paul Collins of the Daily Mail:

Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera is keen for Manchester United to return with an improved offer.

The 22-year-old was left on the bench on Sunday for Bilbao's 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Athletic say they want the player to stay, however Herrera is ready to make the move if United raise their bid to the £36 million required for his buy-out clause.

Sportsmail understands that Manchester United are trying to push through the signing of Herrera by offering to play a friendly at the rebuilt Athletic Bilbao stadium San Mames.

UPDATE: Monday, September 2, at 11:46 a.m. BST

From the Metro:

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan says he has been told that Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini will join Manchester United today.

Speaking during a promotional visit to golf’s K Club in Ireland, Whelan said: "Roberto (Martinez) is chasing James [McCarthy]. If Everton sell Fellaini, they are going to come in again for our boy.

"It depends whether Fellaini goes today. I have heard that he’s definitely going.

"If Fellaini goes, Everton are going to get their £30million or whatever. Roberto knows what James is valued at, so they’ve got to come back in with the right amount. You’ve got to be talking £14million or maybe a little more."

The transfer window slams shut at 11 p.m. BST on Monday, and the big question is whether finally Manchester United manager David Moyes will splash the cash.

Mark Ogden of the Daily Telegraph reports that the Scot will make a renewed attempt to sign Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines from his old club Everton following United's 1-0 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

Reports in the Spanish media suggested another target. Ander Herrera had informed Athletic Bilbao that he was keen to move to United should they trigger his €36 million escape clause.

Moyes told the BBC from Anfield that adding to his squad is not essential. "We will try [to bring new players in]," he said, "but from what I saw of the players, I'm more than happy with the players I've got."

Will we see new faces at Old Trafford? Only time will tell.
