Hottest Liverpool Transfer Rumours

0 of 5

With the summer transfer window set to finally slam shut for the year on Sept 2, Liverpool are now fast running out of time to beef up their thin-looking squad for this season, and so we bring you the most eye-catching rumours currently doing the rounds involving the Reds.

Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers has, of course, already been extremely busy in the close season bringing a number of new faces to Anfield as he continues to mould the squad in his image.

So far, the Northern Irishman has added the likes of Aly Cissokho (loan), Simon Mignolet (£9 million), Iago Aspas (£7.7m), Luis Alberto (£6.8m) and Kolo Toure (free) all for just a combined £23.5m.

And with the Merseysiders having also so far managed to keep hold of star man Luis Suarez against all odds, it has been a satisfactory, if unspectacular, summer recruitment drive for the Reds.

However, there is still time to land some more players before Monday’s cut-off date, with these all potential new signings...

Mamadou Sakho (Paris Saint-Germain)

1 of 5

    Position: centre back
    Age: 23
    Current contract situation: June 2014
    Value: £13m
Likelihood of joining Liverpool in this transfer window: excellent

According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are very close to signing the occasional France international before the Sept 2 cut-off date following the recent injuries to central defenders Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates, with Sakho having undergone a medical at Melwood on Saturday.

However, the Ligue 1 giants are also reluctant to allow the 23-year-old to depart the Parc des Princes, say the Daily Mirror, despite the fact that the versatile defender, who can operate at either centre back or as an auxiliary left back, has not featured for the Parisians so far this season after falling out with new manager Laurent Blanc.

Toby Alderweireld (Ajax)

2 of 5

    Position: centre back
    Age: 24
    Current contract situation: June 2014
    Value: £6m - £8m
Likelihood of joining Liverpool in this transfer window: slim, with the Reds now switching their focus to other defensive targets instead

Liverpool have been keeping close tabs on the highly rated Ajax captain all summer long, along with the rest of the Premier League and most of Europe by all accounts, claims the Daily Mirror.

However, with the Belgium international’s deal at the Amsterdam ArenA now set to expire next summer, the Eredivisie champions would much rather offload the 24-year-old before the window shuts on Monday, than risk losing the defender for free next summer.

But the Merseysiders will need to meet the Dutch giant's valuation of their prize asset if they still wish to land the player after Atletico de Madrid saw an offer for Alderweireld rejected by Ajax only last week.

Tiago Ilori (Sporting Lisbon)

3 of 5

    Position: centre back
    Age: 20
    Current contract situation: June 2015
    Value: £6m
Likelihood of joining Liverpool in this transfer window: strong if Reds are prepared to pay his market value

Liverpool have been monitoring the promising young Portugal Under-20 international for some time now, and even had an offer of £3m for the London-born defender rejected by Sporting back in June, says the Daily Star.

However, following the recent spate of long-term injuries at the back, the Reds have since reignited their interest in the 20-year-old with a view to bringing the left-sided central defender to Anfield before the window closes on Sept 2.

And according to the Daily Mail, Ilori successfully underwent a medical at Melwood on Saturday ahead of his expected move to Anfield.

Victor Moses (Chelsea)

4 of 5

    Position: winger
    Age: 22
    Current contract situation: June 2017
    Value: £1.5m loan fee
Likelihood of joining Liverpool in this transfer window: very good

Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing to a season-long deal for the Chelsea wide man after the Nigeria international had been left out of the west London club’s squad to play Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup on Friday, claim the Daily Mail.

The Reds have now agreed to pay the Blues a one-off fee of £1.5m for the 22-year-old, who cost Chelsea £10m to purchase from Wigan Athletic just a year ago.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos (Schake 04)

5 of 5

    Position: centre back
    Age: 21
    Current contract situation: June 2016
    Value: £13m
Likelihood of joining Liverpool in this transfer window: more chance of arriving in January, or next summer even

The massive Greek international has been on Rodgers’ radar since the end of last season after the Northern Irishman fell out with central defender Martin Skrtel earlier in the year, reports the Daily Mirror.

However, the Reds have so far been reluctant to make a move for the highly rated 21-year-old until they are sure that he has fully recovered from the serious knee-ligament injury that he sustained last December.

As a result, it is more likely that Papadopoulos moves to Anfield at some point next year after proving his fitness with Schalke in the Bundesliga this season.
