When Alabama is dominating on teams, the opposition might as well not show up.

Unfortunately for Virginia Tech, that's what happened during Saturday's season opener against the Crimson Tide. Junior Christion Jones returned two kicks for touchdowns (and completed the hat trick with a 38-yard catch for a score) to pace the blowout.

It didn't take him long to get started, as he took 'Bama's first touch of the young season 72 yards to the house off a Hokie punt.

And he made it look impossibly easy:

After that score less than two minutes into the contest, he went on a serious drought, not finding the end zone until late in the second quarter on a 94-yard kickoff return following a Virginia Tech field goal.

This time around, the degree of difficulty was significantly higher. The Hokies appeared to have him wrapped up near the 27-yard line, but he eluded a couple of would-be tacklers, broke to the sideline and  shifted into another gear to make the score 27-10:

As ESPN Stats & Info pointed out, that concluded a feat that hadn't been accomplished in seven years:

But Jones wasn't finished.

Late in the third quarter, he showed the ability to play a little offense, pulling in his second catch of the game for 38 yards and yet another score, extending his personal lead over the Hokies to 18-10.

This gives the Crimson Tide a scary extra dynamic.

Typically, we know what we're getting from the hard-nosed SEC squad that has won the national championship three times in the past four years.

They are going to run it down your throat and suffocate you on defense. This year, with a veteran A.J. McCarron at the helm, you can even add a stable passing game to that repertoire.

But if Jones can add big-play potential in the return and receiving game like this, it's not even fair. After delivering three huge plays Saturday night, it's a fair assumption to say that he can.
