Penn State 23, Syracuse 17—Final Score
The Penn State Nittany Lions have found their quarterback, and true freshman Christian Hackenberg validated head coach Bill O'Brien's decision to name him the starter. Hackenberg threw for 273 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions en route to a 23-17 victory over the Syracuse Orange.
Both offenses struggled for much of the game, but wide receiver Allen Robinson, who sat out the first half, was the difference-maker for the Nittany Lions. Robinson hauled in seven receptions for 133 yards and one touchdown.
Penn State's defense shut down Drew Allen and the rest of the Orange offense for much of the afternoon. Syracuse only managed to gain 66 yards on the ground and 193 yards through the air.
The Nittany Lions also forced three turnovers in the victory.
