Texas A&M vs. Rice: Live Johnny Manziel Highlights, Updates and Analysis
Live from Kyle Field, Bleacher Report will be delivering updates, news and observations Saturday of Texas A&M's very own Johnny Manziel as he both watches on visored-up from the sideline and later "Johnny Footballs" his way through the Rice defense after sitting out the first half due to suspension.
Nevermind on true freshman Hill...Sumlin opted for Joeckel to return in place of Manziel, who is certainly done for the day. Solid day for the defending Heisman Trophy winner, who finished 6-for-8 passing with 94 yards and three touchdowns as well as six carries for 19 yards and no scores.
Johnny Manziel is like a 1980's Miami player. Love him. I can't wait for his eventual 60 for 60.— Clay Travis (@ClayTravisBGID) August 31, 2013
Love this take from Clay Travis following Manziel's personal foul for unsportsmanlike conduct, which was thrown following him pointing to the scoreboard.
Late sparks coming from this A&M defense...two ejections including junior Deshazor Everett and true freshman Daeshon Hall. Intense response from the crowd, especially after Sumlin challenged the second call and the referees stuck to their guns.
It seems Manziel's three touchdowns and 24 points scored for A&M is enough for head coach Kevin Sumlin, as true freshman back-up Kenny Hill is warming up his arm in preparation to take over the offense next series.
Johnny Footbal, meet Johnny Visor
Manziel gets an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the touchdown pass, gets an ovation from the crowd. The 12th Man loves this guy.— Battalion Sports (@battsports) August 31, 2013
The 12th Man is soaking their starter's energy up. Even the student newspaper has Manziel in their good graces.
Johnny Football just called for unsportsmanlike conduct following the touchdown...personally, I'm not seeing where that came from.
Johnny Manziel with another TD throw to Mike Evans. The two redshirt sophomores are certainly still on the same page after an impressive showing last season.
So many grown men on Twitter criticizing Manziel. So many haters.— Chace Murphy (@chacemurphy) August 31, 2013
Easily one of the most polarizing players in the history of sports.
I don't like johnny taking all of these hits— Jerrod Johnson (@JerrodJohnson1) August 31, 2013
Manziel's scrambling forcing a lot of hits on mobile quarterback. The number of hits has former A&M signal caller Jerrod Johnson a little bit worried.
Manziel's elusiveness is insane, keep an eye out for more shakes and turns by the young A&M QB.
Heading into the fourth quarter, A&M is up 38-21 over Rice. Manziel and the A&M offense were responsible for just ten points during the third quarter, putting up a field goal and a touchdown on consecutive drives to start the second half.
Over 86,686 fans in attendance to catch a glimpse of the nation's most famous No. 2.
If Johnny Football was supposed to be boring his name would be Henry Golf.— Jason Gay (@jasonWSJ) August 31, 2013
Speak the truth, WSJ
Dollar dollar bills, y'all. Manziel with the money celebration
Manziel now has taken two sacks. Where is this veteran O-Line we've been talking about all summer?
And he's BAAAAAACK! TD Johnny Football! Pass to Mike Evans after another Wrecking Crew INT makes it 38-21, 9:43 3q— Scott Jarvis (@sjarvis00) August 31, 2013
This tweet captures it all.
Johnny Football with his first TD pass of the season...to who else by a veteran of last year's big-time offense Mike Evans. One completion=one TD for Manziel.
Johnny Football is back on the field following the pick. The defense has a sudden urge to give him the ball, snaring two picks in as many drives by Rice.
Johnny Manziel salutes Kyle Field crowd as he takes the field for the first time, suspension over.— Kate Hairopoulos (@khairopoulos) August 31, 2013
However, the crowd here at Kyle Field has been electric since he took the field.
Manziel's first drive unsuccessful outside of a 43 yard field goal by Bertolet. Lots of scrambling, not a lot of passing. Even a sack, as rare as that is for Johnny Football
Johnny Football time. Here we go.
Just one Rice series away from Johnny Manziel finally taking the field. Don'g go anywhere
Just a halftime away. Expect some crazy crowd reaction at Kyle Field in just under 20 minutes.
Three minutes till halftime. Just three minutes till Johnny Football takes the field.
