Have you ever heard the phrase, "Getting paid like a top ten pick."? I have heard this on more than one occasion and its being used a lot more now that draft day is approaching.
Here is what the big deal is about this phrase.
Why in any other job or profession do people get paid more the longer they have been there but in the NFL you get the most money before you have ever stepped on the field? It seems to me that the more hyped you are by the media, the bigger the contract. Chances are that if you are a top ten pick you will never really live up to your potential. Then the fans and the team feel let down but by that time the player has already got his fortune.
I understand that as you get older in sports the less you produce but why not reward those who have managed to have a long career by giving them the money. I know this subject is a lost cause but I needed to get this off my chest, because I, like so many feel that the veterans of football are getting the bad end of the deal.
What motivation is there to give it your all every year when you know that some young guy who is unproven is going to wreak the benefits?
