Arsenal have had a quiet summer transfer window despite the constant criticism of long-time boss Arsene Wenger and the club's lack of spending this offseason.

The Gunners have made zero moves worth mentioning through the first two months of the window, but now appear determined to salvage the summer with a colossal deal that would bring the Real Madrid trio of Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria to Emirates in exchange for £70 million, according to The Guardian's Scott Murray.

The potential additions would certainly be costly ones, but more importantly, would elevate Arsenal on towards reclaiming the Premier League throne and becoming a major player on the Champions League stage.

Benzema would provide a critical boost in the final third, where Arsenal have lacked consistency in recent years. The 25-year-old Frenchman finished as the fifth-leading scorer in La Liga two seasons ago with 21 goals in 34 league appearances for Real.

Benzema is also a creative threat around the goal, where he recorded 19 assists to go with 20 goals in 50 matches with the Spanish giants last season.

Meanwhile, Ozil and Di Maria would provide Wenger with two more talented offensive-minded players to mix into the lineup.

Even if their production at the Bernabeu wasn't jaw-dropping, both players can finish around the box and open up scoring chances for others.

Arsenal need playmakers and a finishing kick in order to win the big matches against Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea this season. The same thing applies in Europe against elite club with dangerous go-to strikers.

By acquiring a reliable scorer in Benzema and two other promising attacking threats in Ozil and di Maria, the Gunners would be addressing a key need at the end of the transfer window, thus ensuring that they build off of last season.

For Arsenal, it's been a summer plagued by criticism and complaints, but one that could turn the tide in Holloway if they can land the coveted trio before the window closes next week.
