So now there's a real answer, as to why J.J. Putz's has struggled and his velocity is down.

Putz has been proclaiming his health and telling anyone who would listen, that he is struggling because of a lack of adrenaline from setting up instead of closing.

It's now being reported that Putz has a bone spur and while surgery isn't the current recommendation, he is unavailable for at least two days.

At least with an ailment, there's a course of treatment and a time table, if this was all mental then there would be no telling when he came around.

The Mets confirmed today that reliever J.J. Putz has a bone spur in his right (pitching) elbow and will be unavailable for at least the first two games of the San Francisco series that starts tonight. source NY Post
