NBA Podcast: 2013-14 Minnesota Timberwolves Season Preview
Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports
The Minnesota Timberwolves are poised to be entertaining, deep and (finally) pretty darn good. But can they stay healthy enough to actually win?
As the team banks on better medical luck for Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic and, basically, the entire roster, it also added much-needed shooting with the signing of Kevin Martin. Since he doesn't play defense, the arrival of Corey Brewer is also critical.
Draft picks Shabazz Muhammad and Gorgui Dieng will be productive, yet brought along slowly, and the team's bench has more usable players than coach Rick Adelman can probably find minutes for.
Yet, as last (lost?) year proved, all that depth can dry up in a hurry, and this team won't go much of anywhere if Rubio and Love are at the infirmary instead of full star mode. But what is its upside if everything really does come together?
With the West as competitive as ever, will this team simply sit on the playoff fringe, or can it actually give the mid-level powers a real run for their money?
