Of all the statistics that speak of the death knell of American tennis, this one may be the most jarring. In 1983, the top 10 American men were all ranked among the top 16 of the ATP rankings. Thirty years later, not one American man is in the top 16 and the 10th-ranked U.S. player is a lowly No. 116 in the world.
