Liverpool’s work in the summer transfer window is far from over.
Brendan Rodgers is still keen to add at least two more names to his squad prior to the deadline, the most likely of whom is PSG’s Mamadou Sakho.
Rodgers has been determined to add a centre-back and a left-winger all summer, and Dominic King of the Daily Mail reports that Sakho is viewed as the ideal capture.
Liverpool are looking to bolster their defence with a deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho.
Brendan Rodgers confirmed on Tuesday night that Liverpool are interested in the France central defender.
The need for a centre-back intensified on Tuesday night when Kolo Toure stretched his groin during the 4-2 League Cup win over Notts County, per Graeme Yorke of the Daily Mail. He now joins Sebastian Coates on the sidelines.
Martin Skrtel is expected to be fit to partner Daniel Agger in the weekend’s showdown with Manchester United, but beyond that pairing Liverpool are left with the inexperienced Andre Wisdom or part-time centre-half Martin Kelly.
Sakho, who at 23 years old and already has 14 caps for France, is believed to want a move to Liverpool and is growing frustrated by PSG’s lack of willingness to do business.
Rodgers’ other two targets concern the business end of the pitch, where he is determined to add more creativity to an increasingly dangerous attack.
The Liverpool boss wants the freedom to be able to move Philippe Coutinho into a more central No. 10 role and has cast the net in order to land at least one of two targets.
Chelsea’s Victor Moses is reportedly available for a cut-price £2 million as the Blues look to offload one of their many attacking talents, although Rodgers may push for a loan agreement.
Which player should Liverpool sign?
Liverpool’s chief priority, though, remains Arda Turan of Atletico Madrid.
The 26-year-old Turkey international has already created three goals and scored another in three appearances for Atletico this season and is comfortable either behind a striker or out wide.
His agent has already confessed the player would listen to offers from England, and he has a £29 million buyout clause in his contract with the Madrid club.
Arsenal and Liverpool have both shown interest in Turan, but Gary Jones of the Daily Star reports Tottenham are ready to enter the mix with a formal offer.
From a Liverpool perspective, the capture of Turan appears an ideal fit. His flowing dribbling style, timing of runs and vision would complement the understanding built between Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge—and with Luis Suarez thrown into the same attack, Liverpool would look an extremely dangerous outfit.
