However, Rodgers is still targeting yet more arrivals before that Sept. 2 cut-off date.

Moses is on his way to Liverpool on a season-long loan, say the Mail
The Daily Mail’s John Drayton reports that Liverpool are on the verge of agreeing a season-long loan deal for unwanted Chelsea wide man Victor Moses, who was left out of the west London club’s squad for Friday’s Super Cup clash with Bayern Munich.
The Reds will pay a one-off fee of £1.5 million for the Nigeria international, who cost Chelsea £10m to buy from Wigan Athletic just a year ago, but who has now been deemed surplus to requirements by the Blues.
Meanwhile, the Mail also claims that the Merseysiders will splash out a combined £23m in order to bring the defensive duo of Sporting Lisbon’s Tiago Ilori and Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho to Anfield, with both centre backs having undergone medicals at Melwood on Saturday ahead of their expected moves to the Reds.
And finally, Liverpool are still interested in signing veteran Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given to act as back-up to first-choice Simon Mignolet, say the Mail, although Rodgers now faces competition for the Republic of Ireland international’s signature from fellow Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion.
Anfield bound?: Liverpool have bid £19.7m for Kiev winger Yarmalenko, says the Express
According to the Daily Telegraph’s Liverpool Correspondent Chris Bascombe, the Reds are about to embark on a massive £25 million spending spree to sign the defensive duo of Sporting Lisbon’s Tiago Ilori and Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho before the summer transfer window closes on Sept 2.
It had initially been thought that the Merseysiders would only make a move for one of the two centre backs following the recent long-term injuries picked up by both Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates.
However, the Telegraph says that in actual fact, manager Brendan Rodgers will now attempt to land both players before the cut-off date at midnight on Monday.
And finally, the Daily Express’ Ben Jefferson claims that Rodgers has also lodged a bid of £19.7m for in-demand Dynamo Kiev wide man Andriy Yarmolenko, although Liverpool face competition for the 23-year-old’s signature from Serie A giants AC Milan.
The Rossoneri themselves recently had an offer of £17m for the highly rated Ukraine international turned down by Kiev, who are understood to value the winger at around £20m.
And now it remains to be seen if the Merseysiders’ bid is high enough to persuade the Ukrainians to part company with their star player in this transfer window.
Could Given really be about to sign for Liverpool, as the Mail claims?
The Daily Mirror’s David Anderson reports that Liverpool have hit a major stumbling block in their efforts to sign a new defender this summer following the recent long-term injuries picked by both centre-backs Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates.
The Reds had been hoping to sign either Sporting Lisbon’s Tiago Ilori or Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho, however, they have been quoted prices of £17 million and £13m respectively for the central defenders.
And with both players out of contract at their clubs next summer, the Merseysiders are said to be unwilling to meet those valuations of the duo.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail’s North-West Correspondent Dominic King says that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing a shock move for unwanted Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given to act as back-up to first-choice shot-stopper Simon Mignolet at Anfield this season.
The veteran Republic of Ireland international has been told by Villa boss Paul Lambert that he no longer has a future at Villa Park and can find a new club, with the Reds hoping to be able to finalise a deal for the 37-year-old before the transfer window closes on Sept 2.
And finally, the Mail’s John Edwards claims that long-running Liverpool defensive target Toby Alderweireld will reject the chance to join the Reds this season in favour of moving to Liga outfit Atletico de Madrid instead.
The in-demand Belgium international, who only has a year left on his current contract with Eredivisie champions Ajax, wants to play in the UEFA Champions League and as such, will sign for Diego Simeone’s Liga high flyers before the Sept 2 cut-off date.
Liverpool are targeting Schalke defender Papadopoulos, say the Mirror
The Daily Mirror’s Liverpool Correspondent David Maddock claims that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers will definitely be making at least TWO new signings before the summer transfer window slams shut for business on Sept 2.
The red top reports that the Northern Irishman wants cover at the back following the recent long-term injuries to centre-backs Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates, with both Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho and Schalke 04’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos his main targets.
Of the two, Rodgers would rather take the Greek international, however, there are concerns at the club about the 21-year-old’s fitness, with Papadopoulos having only just started playing again following a serious knee injury last December.
As a result, the Merseysiders would prefer to take the defender on a season-long loan with a view to signing him on a permanent deal next summer if he proves his fitness in this campaign, although the chances of the Bundesliga giants allowing that to happen are virtually non-existent.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail says that long-running Liverpool target Christian Eriksen is now on the verge of joining rivals Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax for £14m, and so ending Rodgers’ hopes of landing the coveted Denmark international this summer.
Keeping his eye on the ball: Mamadou Sakho maybe heading to Liverpool, say the Mail
The Daily Mail’s North-West Correspondent Dominic King reports that Liverpool will step up their attempts to bring highly rated Paris Saint-Germain utility defender Mamadou Sakho to Merseyside this season following injuries to both Kolo Toure and Aly Cissokho on Tuesday night.
Veteran centre-back Toure tore his groin in the Reds’ 4-2 extra-time win over Notts County in the League Cup second round at Anfield and is expected to be now be out of action for a long period of time.
Meanwhile, recent new loanee Cissokho was also forced off within minutes of making his full debut against the League One outfit with an ankle problem, although it is not thought to be as serious as the Cameroon internationals.
Either way, however, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is aiming to bring in some much-needed cover at the back before the summer transfer window closes on Sept 2, with the Ligue 1 champions’ central defender understood to be his number one target.
The 23-year-old France international, who is also currently being tracked by Liga champions Barcelona, can operate at either centre back or as a left back and has a contract at the Parc des Princes that only runs until next summer, meaning the Merseysiders would be able to secure him for a cut-price sum.
Here today, gone tomorrow: will Suarez still be a Liverpool player this time next week?
The Daily Mirror’s John Cross claims that Spanish giants Real Madrid are preparing to offload Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria for a whopping £100 million before the summer transfer window shuts for the year on Sept 2, in order to help fund the purchase of Liverpool forward Luis Suarez.
However los Blancos, who will use the proceeds from the trio’s departure from the Santiago Bernabeu to also buy Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Gareth Bale this season, are only prepared to pay £42m for the Reds’ star man, which falls some way short of the Merseysiders’ own £50m valuation of the Uruguay international.
Keeping his eye on the ball: Moses could be on his way to Anfield this week on a season-long loan
Neil Ashton of the Daily Mail reports that Liverpool are keen on taking unwanted Chelsea wide man Victor Moses on a season-long loan to Anfield, but only if the two clubs can agree a fee for the Nigeria international.
The West London club are understood to be asking for £2 million to sign the 22-year-old for this campaign. However, that price is considered to be too high by the Reds, who are also said to be reluctant to meet Moses' current £55,000-per-week salary at Stamford Bridge.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is still believed to be hopeful of reaching a compromise with the Blues before the window shuts on Sept. 2, owing to his previous good relationship with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
