Chelsea has to land a big signing before the transfer deadline on September 2 if they hope to dominate in English Premier League play throughout the campaign.
With the never-ending merry-go-round of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney continuing to play out, it’s time that the Blues direct the bulk of their attention elsewhere.
Likewise, it looks as if Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is doing just that.
According to The Express’ Ben Jefferson, Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan could be on his way to the Premier League, with Chelsea and Liverpool as potential landing spots.
Per Jefferson, Turan’s agent, Ahmet Bulut expressed to Turkish television station NTV Spor that a move could happen pretty soon:
The transfer of Arda to the Premier League this summer is likely.
England is where most of the interest in him lies and they are well informed about Atletico's stance.
They know that the Madrid club are rejecting all offers for him but that if the pay his release clause there is nothing the club can do.
The release clause Bulut was referring to is a sum of £20 million for the Turkish winger, according to Jefferson, which is a pretty sizable amount.
Although Chelsea has desperately been trying to land a striker, bringing in Turan could pay dividends moving forward.
Turan creates opportunities in the final third, linking play by way of crafty ball-handling and control.
He can also knock the ball into the net when needed, having scored five goals in 32 La Liga appearances last season.
Likewise, he exerts effort in each third of the pitch, striving to have a part in the attack and on defense.
Although Chelsea already possesses one of the greatest set of midfielders in all of world football, adding Turan would give Mourinho a plethora of options at his disposal throughout the season. Plus, having Turan would take pressure off stars Juan Mata and Eden Hazard to produce at a high level on a regular basis.
Mourinho would be wise to make a move that would bring Turan to Stamford Bridge.
With the transfer deadline a little under two weeks away, landing Turan could be the move that puts Chelsea in pole position to capture the league crown this season.
