Ever wondered what devastation the Netherlands national team could have caused had Dennis Bergkamp played the prime years of his career in the same team as Ruud Gullit at his peak?
Bergkamp could see the full picture before the proverbial paintbrush had even been lifted. Gullit allied wonderful poise to a fabulous brain and exceptional power.
The former netted 37 goals in 79 games for the Dutch national side, while the latter bagged a healthy 17 in 66. As linkups go, the pair would be pretty awesome even in today's game…if only Gullit had not retired from the international scene four years after Bergkamp entered it.
FIFA 14 will bring the prospect of such fantasy linkups after introducing a blend of legends and current superstars to the Ultimate Team Mode—only on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
The full lineup of legends will be revealed at the EA Gamescom press conference, which can be watched live at 3 p.m. BST (10 a.m. EDT) here.
A prelude can already be seen in the FIFA 14 Ultimate Team trailer, which features three of the players to feature in the game’s exciting new roster.
As well as the aforementioned Bergkamp and Gullit, another former Arsenal favourite Freddie Ljungberg features in the trailer alongside current stars Gareth Bale and Lionel Messi.
EA Sports’ official website reports that each player will have his “own unique attributes,” based on what type of player they were during the peak moments of their careers.
The legendary players will be randomly inserted into FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Gold Packs beginning at the launch of the Xbox One.
