Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of August 19

0 of 7

The season has begun, and Tottenham Hotspur fans will have been pleased with the performances of their club's new signings in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Manager André Villas-Boas told the Daily Telegraph's John Percy last week that he and Technical Director Franco Baldini's transfer dealings may not yet be over:

Franco’s addition to Tottenham will be a major, major step forward and I think we’ve been seeing the impact of that already. If we can make all of the deals that we have planned for the remaining weeks hopefully we can threaten not in the league but in the other trophies.

Targets—both in the market and for the season—have already been clearly established in their minds. We may find out over the course of this week just who in the former they have identified.

For all the latest news and rumours relating to Tottenham's transfer activity, make sure to check back here throughout the week.

Falque Loaned to Rayo Vallecano

1 of 7

    Saturday, August 24

Yago Falque has joined Rayo Vallecano on a season-long loan, as announced on Tottenham Hotspur's official website.

The Spanish attacker spent time at Almeria last season, helping them earn promotion to La Liga.

Falque joins a Vallecano side who begun their season brightly last weekend, beating Elche 3-0 at home.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas will likely keep an eye on the player's progression this year.

However the move also puts him in the shop window for next season. Even with a fine campaign in Spain, Falque may find chances at Spurs limited given the options the club has.

Real Lay Bale Options on the Table for Tottenham?

2 of 7

    Saturday, August 24

BBC Sport's Dan Roan reports Real Madrid have made two offers for Gareth Bale for Tottenham to choose from.

The upfront, single payment of around £70 million falls way short of Tottenham's long reported valuation of Bale. Though a player could be added to the transfer to make up for this.

The other option is closer to that suggested price, coming in at what Roan describes as "100m euros (£86m) with structured payments over three to four years."

Uncertainty remains over how quickly any move might be completed, with an estimation ranging from an announcement later on Saturday to sometime during next week.

Or of course, it might not be done at all.

    Friday, August 23

As reported by Darren Lewis and Neil McLeman in The Mirror, Chelsea have launched a last-minute bid to buy Willian before Tottenham can.

A £32 million offer for the Anzhi Makhachkala attacker could prove enough for Chelsea to steal him away from the clutches of their London rivals.

Interestingly, the Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel believes this turn of events could lead to Tottenham pulling the plug on Gareth Bale's proposed move to Real Madrid.

For the time being, others such as The Independent's Jack De Menezes, are still reporting that advanced negotiations between Real and Spurs are taking place over Bale.

Whatever the resolution, it would be a welcome development just to see this saga come to an end so all parties can move on with their lives.

    We should be so lucky...

Bale Confusion and Adebayor Wants to Stay

    Thursday, August 22

The consensus among several media outlets is that Gareth Bale is nearing a move to Real Madrid. None can quite agree on the details though.

The Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel has Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy "locked in negotiations on Wednesday night to finalise Gareth Bale’s world record £94million transfer to Real Madrid."

Spurs are also said to be attempting to secure a separate deal for Fabio Coentrao, rather than have him included as part of the a transfer for the Welshman.

The Guardian's Sid Lowe reports that Spurs' Technical Director Franco Baldini was the man doing the negotiating.

Lowe also notes that a money plus player deal is not off the table.

Pete Jenson of the Daily Telegraph believes Real are keen to secure Bale's signature in time for their game with Athletic Bilbao in a couple of weekends.

The match is being played at midday—a rarity for La Liga—and they want Bale in the lineup as they seek to capitalise on the greater global viewing figures that should come with the time.

Meanwhile The Mirror's Darren Lewis reports that Emmanuel Adebayor is not in a hurry to leave White Hart Lane, despite allegedly falling out of favour with Andre Villas-Boas.

Tottenham to Outbid Liverpool for Willian?

4 of 7

    Wednesday, August 21

The Mirror's Darren Lewis believes Tottenham are close to securing a £30 million deal for Willian. The North London club might not be too far away from spending a further £29 million on Roma's Erik Lamela too.

In addition, Lewis talks up Spurs interest in Botev Plovdiv winger Todor Nedelev and Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld. Christian Eriksen from the latter club may also be of interest.

    Tuesday, August 20

BBC Sport reports that Tottenham are in "advanced talks" to buy Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala.

The articles states that the Brazilian will make a decision over his future later on Tuesday, and suggests he has chosen Spurs over Liverpool.

    UPDATE: Monday, August 19

Andre Villas-Boas was quoted by the Press Association, here via The Guardian, as saying Tottenham have not yet bid for Willian.

However Villas-Boas did confirm his admiration for the player and also reiterated Spurs "haven't finished" their spending in the transfer window yet.

    Monday, August 19

According to Darren Lewis of The Mirror, Tottenham are preparing to "hijack" Liverpool's attempt to sign Anzhi Makhachkala's Willian.

Lewis reports the North London club are planning to offer £30 million, an increase on the £26 million bid from their Premier League rivals.

Willian only joined Anzhi at the beginning of 2013, but the Russian club's keenness to recoup some of their huge financial outlays has seen them looking to offload the former Shakhtar Donetsk man.

Bale and Defoe Exit Rumours

    Wednesday, August 21

Joining Gareth Bale in being touted with a Tottenham exit is striker Jermain Defoe. The Sun's Graham Hill and the Daily Express are both reporting on interest from Stoke City.

Meanwhile The Mirror's Darren Lewis and Metro's Jamie Sanderson report that Spurs could be prepared to accept a £93 million plus player deal for Bale from Real Madrid.

Fabio Coentrao would be the man going the other way.

Parker Joins Fulham

    Monday, August 19

Tottenham have announced the transfer of Scott Parker to Fulham, via their official website.

In a statement on, the Cottagers announced the midfielder had signed a three-year contract.

Parker leaves Spurs after two seasons at White Hart Lane. He was voted player of the year by the club's supporters in his first season.

Spurs Still Targeting Modrić Return?

7 of 7

    Monday, August 19

The Mirror's Matt Law believes Tottenham are still interested in bringing Luka Modrić back as part of any prospective Gareth Bale transfer to Real Madrid.

Despite this, Modrić would reportedly refuse any attempt to include him as he favours a move to Manchester United.

In reality, both might be unlikely anyway.

The Croatian played the full 90 minutes of Real's opening 2-1 win over Real Betis in La Liga.

Given how Modrić found his feet over the latter half of last season in Spain, it would seem foolish for his manager Carlo Ancelotti to even contemplate selling the talented midfield.
