In Oxford,Mississippi yesterday the Ole Miss Rebels beat LSU 2-1 in the first game of the three-game series. LSU led 1-0 in the third inning by the way of a homer over the right field wall. The Rebels came back in the to win the game in the eighth inning when Bret Basham led off for the Rebels and hit a home run to take the lead. Designated hitter Fuller Smith was right behind Basham's home run with a double. The Tiger pitcher Daniel Bradshaw walked left fielder Logan Power. That was the last straw for Tiger coach Paul Mainieri, and Bradshaw was replaced by Paul Bertuccini. The next batter, Cody Overbeck, was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Later in that inning, the first baseman Matt Smith lined into a double play to end the inning. The Ole Miss starting pitcher Lance Lynn earned the win for the Rebels, while the Tiger starter Jordan Brown got the loss, though he pitched arguably the best game of his career.
