At 6'4'', 209 pounds, Terry Googer, a 3-star recruit out of Atlanta, Ga., is a big wide receiver who will provide a big target at the college level. According to reports, Googer has committed to South Carolina.
Kipp Adams of 247Sports reported the commitment and Googer's thoughts on his decision:
“When I made my last visit to South Carolina in early July, I knew it was the place for me and I pulled the trigger and committed,” Googer said. “I liked the system already, but when they showed me the academic side of the program, I knew then that I loved everything about South Carolina. It feels great to be committed to South Carolina and a relief to be done with the process.”
Adams reports that while Googer projects to play wideout for South Carolina, he is a quarterback right now for Woodward Academy. With that said, here are Googer's thoughts on playing wide receiver for the Gamecocks:
“I am a big receiver, so they said they will use me often and early in goalline situations and sometimes in the slot,” Googer said. “I love that because I feel like I can go up over defenders and come down with the ball.”
Mismatches are oftentimes key to winning football games; in Googer, the Gamecocks are getting a player who can create those mismatches.
He's a big kid who can go up and get the ball, a valuable asset to an offense. As Googer said in his quotes, he could be very effective in the red zone and cornerbacks in the slot will have a virtually impossible time trying to defend him.
All the quarterback will have to do is throw it up, and Googer could use his body to almost shield the football, much like a tight end—or a basketball player getting a rebound.
For South Carolina, there's a lot to like about this commitment.
South Carolina now has 13 commitments.
