It's only the second week of the preseason, but that doesn't mean Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy is going to take it easy on opponents. He made Carolina Panthers cornerback Drayton Florence look silly on a 21-yard run in Thursday night's 14-9 Eagles victory.
Taking an inside handoff from Nick Foles late in the first quarter, McCoy bounced his run to the outside, where he presented Florence with the difficult task of bringing him down in the open field. Unfortunately for Florence, McCoy was prepared to remind him why "Shady" is one of the NFL's best playmakers at running back.
With a quick jab-step juke, McCoy sent Florence diving at air and continued on his merry way downfield.
McCoy would finish his day with 47 yards on eight carries and three receptions for 16 yards. After sitting out the Eagles' preseason opener against the New England Patriots, it looks like McCoy will have no issues making Chip Kelly look like a very wise man in his debut season as head coach.
A healthy McCoy will certainly go a long way in easing the transition. The star running back is coming off a down year in which he missed four games and ran for just 840 yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles struggled to a 4-12 season.
With 5,454 total yards from scrimmage in his first four seasons, he's one of the league's most versatile and dynamic backs—a perfect fit for Kelly's versatile scheme.
You never want to read too much into what a player looks like in the preseason, but this nifty move should have Eagles fans and LeSean McCoy fantasy football owners believing that they're in for a fun season.
