Darren Bent Transfer Rumours: Latest Gossip Surrounding Aston Villa Star
Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is coming off a lacklustre campaign that saw him net just three Premier League goals. Now, he's moving away from Villa Park in an attempt to revitalise his career.
UPDATE: Friday, Aug. 16
Fulham announced the signing of Darren Bent on the club's official website:
Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Darren Bent from Aston Villa, on a season long loan...
... Fulham Manager Martin Jol said: 'Darren Bent is a striker I have always admired. He has shown in the Barclays Premier League that he is composed and clinical in front of goal but, even if he is not scoring, he is involved in some good link-up play, creating opportunities for his teammates. I’m delighted that he has joined us, he gives us pace up front and I am confident that he will add to our goals scored tally this season.'
The club also posted a photo of an excited Bent on Twitter:
Stuart James of The Guardian reports Bent is set to undergo a medical at Fulham ahead of a potential season-long loan deal. The Cottagers apparently jumped into the process late after initial interest from Crystal Palace and Newcastle.
Darren Bent will undergo a medical at Fulham this morning with a view to joining the Premier League club on a season-long loan from Aston Villa. The news has come as a bitter disappointment to Crystal Palace, who had expected Bent to report for a medical with them this morning. Bent, however, had a late change of heart when it became clear that Fulham were able to put together a season-long loan deal along the lines that Palace had proposed.
Fulham manager Martin Jol was coy when asked about the situation, according to the BBC. He wouldn't confirm Bent was nearing an agreement to join the club, but didn't deny the possibility either. The boss also said he wished Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway hadn't discussed the subject.

The latest reports about Fulham's involvement come after it appeared the Eagles were working hard on a deal for Bent. Alan Nixon of the Daily Mirror reported Palace was trying to get a deal done in time for the striker to play this weekend.
Crystal Palace are ready to clinch a loan deal for Darren Bent, after putting an inventive offer to Aston Villa.
The Premier League new boys will pay around £40,000-a-week of England striker Bent’s wages - and throw in a survival bonus to Villa if he helps them avoid relegation.
As of now, nothing is official. With so many different parties involved, it might take some time for everything to sort itself out.
Bent has previous experience with Jol as they briefly crossed paths at Tottenham. If he moved to Fulham, he would create a formidable attacking duo with Dimitar Berbatov, who scored 15 goals after arriving from Manchester United last season.
Crystal Palace are also in need of attacking options. Last season's top scorer, Glenn Murray, is sidelined due to a knee injury and rising star Wilfried Zaha is now at United. So Bent would become a prominent piece of their plans.
Bent still has the ability necessary to make a major impact at the Premier League level. He just needs to find the right situation, which is apparently an ongoing process.
