The Washington Redskins were initially encouraged when X-rays determined that rookie safety Phillip Thomas escaped with no broken bones after injuring his left foot in the preseason opener. That outlook changed drastically after the fourth-round pick was sent for a second opinion that revealed a torn Lisfranc ligament in his foot.
