Throwback Thursday: The 1992 Dream Team Wins Gold in Barcelona
On August 8, 1992, the team widely considered "the greatest team ever assembled" earned a gold medal with their 117-85 victory over Croatia in the gold medal game of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.
Magic Johnson stated, via the video below, "We had one goal, and that was to win the gold medal, but also blow everybody out, and we did both." They most certainly did, by an average of 43.8 points to be exact, led by Charles Barkley's 18 points per game on .711 shooting.
Head coach Chuck Daly said that the team was like, "Elvis and the Beatles put together. Traveling with the Dream Team was like traveling with 12 rock stars." Daly called a grand total of zero timeouts during the team's eight wins.
