World Football Idiot of the Week

Michael CummingsWorld Football Lead WriterAugust 5, 2013

Last time we saw Joseph Barton playing English league football, the Queens Park Rangers midfielder was starting a near-riot against Manchester City in the famously climactic final day of the 2011-12 Premier League season.

Now that he’s back, he’s eating some crow.

See, back in May, when Barton was still on loan with Marseille in France, he tweeted to more than 2 million followers that he would not be playing in the English League Championship next season. His caps lock apparently got stuck, and he made liberal use of the word "buffoons" to describe his followers.

But lo and behold, when the season started on Sunday, Joey was back in the championship, playing with Queens Park Rangers.

How about that?

For some players, that might be an honest mistake. But because we’re talking about a guy with Barton’s rap sheet, we know better. That’s why we’re naming him our B/R World Football Idiot of the Week.
