The NCAA has opened up an investigation into whether Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel has violated its amateurism rules after the Heisman Trophy winner was reportedly paid for signing memorabilia in January.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, the NCAA reportedly met with the star quarterback, who denied the allegations.

ESPN's Brett McMurphy announced on Wednesday that Manziel will be suspended for the first half vs. Rice. However, it's not clear whether the NCAA or the school handed down the punishment:

Johnny Manziel has been suspended 1st half vs. Rice, source told @ESPN. 1st reported by @billyliucci
