Alabama's is stacked at outside linebacker, but that won't hinder the Crimson Tide from getting a good look from 4-star outside linebacker Rashaan Evans.
"Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and UCLA are the final four schools," said Evans' father Alan Evans. "Rashaan is ready to move forward and focus on just those four schools."
Depth is just part of the equation every recruit has to work through when they choose Alabama, and the case won't be any different if Evans wants to truly consider the Crimson Tide.
Alabama already has 17 commitments, and two of those are outside linebackers. Christian Miller, 4-star, committed to 'Bama at the end of July, and the Tide were recently able to flip 3-star recruit Keith Holcombe from Mississippi State. Alabama also has commitments from two inside linebackers, 4-stars Zach Whitley and Shaun Hamilton. While they play inside, any good linebacker should be able to scoot out from time to time.
With that in mind though, Nick Saban and his staff has proved over the years that he knows how to utilize every player on the depth chart, and the "next man up" philosophy has been drilled to perfection during these glory years of the Saban era.
One great player leaves, another great player replaces. If you're competing at a high level in practices, getting better as a football player and winning championships in the meantime, it makes that depth chart much easier to process.
With that said, Saban and coach Kirby Smart already have a role for Evans in mind, per Scalici:
We sat down with Coach Saban and Coach Smart for a while and got a chance to ask them whatever we wanted. Coach Saban feels like Rashaan can play a role for them as a freshman as a pass rushing threat. They see him as an outside linebacker that rushes the passer 75 percent of the time and drops back maybe 25 percent of the time. We brought up the recent commitment from Christian Miller and they said they seem him playing a different role, probably a little more focused on coverage.
At face value, Alabama's depth at linebacker could seem like a deterrent, but it's quite obvious that Saban and Smart have shed some light on how Evans could work his way onto the field early on.
If you were worried about the depth chart playing a factor in this race for 'Bama, don't be.
According to his 247Sports Crystal Ball, 12-of-15 experts predict he'll end up at Auburn. The other three picked Georgia.
