A photo of Cincinnati Bengals fan Garey Faulkner with a six-pack of Hu-Dey beer wrapped up in his glorious facial hair went viral Wednesday after he was spotted at Bengals training camp with quarterback Andy Dalton.
New information has emerged about Faulkner from Fox 19 Cincinnati, revealing that he is a native Cincinnatian who started growing the beard after a $1,000 bet that he couldn't grow it for one year (he did, but never got paid). Now he can be seen supporting Cincy teams with his 14-inch beard decorated in team colors and stripes.
Faulkner doesn't just use his beard to demonstrate his fanhood—he donates all of the profits he earns from his beard to charity. Kelly Taylor of Fox 19 explains:
Garey has participated in facial hair competitions across the country, including a national competition in Las Vegas. He placed in the top ten, and says he plans to compete in a world facial hair competition in Munich, Germany.
He competes with a local club, as well, called 'Beard Team Ohio', which has a facial hair event once a year in Columbus. The best part? His winnings are donated to local charities.
Here's to hoping we see more fans expressing themselves like Faulkner this season.
