Manchester United Transfer News: Latest on Marouane Fellaini and Cesc Fabregas
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

David Moyes' first summer as Manchester United manager has been a quiet one.

The club signed Guillermo Varela to add depth to their back line along with young winger Wilfried Zaha, but other than that, it's been a whole bunch of rumors, speculation and frustration coming out of Old Trafford.

Still, the lack of movement during the first month of the transfer window shouldn't cause fans to reach for the panic button just yet. Manchester United may have areas that need improvement, but let's not forget the club won the EPL by 11 points last season.

Besides, there's still plenty of time until the transfer window closes if the always successful sides intend to make a move.

Nevertheless, while patience is an important virtue for Manchester United, the club have been linked to some major potential transfers. Let's take a look at the most recent talk surrounding some of them.

As soon as it was announced Moyes would be taking over at Manchester United, the consensus opinion was simple: Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines would soon be following him.

Well, not so fast.

New Toffees boss Roberto Martinez was recently asked, via Goal.com's George Ankers, if there had been any new bids for Fellaini or Baines. His response was simple:

"Not at all."

Both players would give the defending EPL champions a boost, but Fellaini, in particular, would be welcomed with open arms.

The burgeoning Belgian is a box-to-box midfielder. He's an aerial threat, makes accurate passes and is both aggressive and energetic when defending. He's the type of workhorse almost any club would jump at, let alone Manchester United, a side in need of elite help in midfield.

With the price for Fellaini set to increase after his buy-out clause expires on August 14, Moyes and Co. would be smart to speed talks along if they are still interested.

Which they should be.

Perhaps Manchester United have seemingly cooled on Fellaini because the potential of adding Spanish maestro Cesc Fabregas has soaked up the club's attention.

According to Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino, via ESPN, however, Fabregas isn't going anywhere:

Maybe Fabregas' inevitable breakup with Barcelona has been just slightly overstated this summer.

Still, we've seen how these things can change in a hearbeat, and if the 26-year-old is even a little available, he's worth pursuing.

As one of the best playmakers in the world, the former Arsenal star scored 11 goals and tallied 11 assists for Barcelona in La Liga last season, compiling an average match rating of 7.41.

Having his creativity in central midfield behind the likes of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez and others should be a scary thought for the rest of the EPL.

For now, though, a "thought" is all it may be.
