Central defense is a major cause of concern for the Blaugrana, and the 35-year-old Samuel could be a short-term option to help fix any issues. However, injuries have slowed him down in recent years, and Barcelona would risk having him and Carles Puyol on the treatment table at the same time. That would leave them in a situation similar to the one they are currently in.

Samuel does have some familiarity with La Liga, as he played for Real Madrid during the 2004/05 season.
