UFC Rankings for Each Weight Division Following UFC on Fox 8

0 of 10

Demetrious Johnson silenced some critics at UFC on Fox 8, where he picked up his first stoppage win inside the Octagon by submitting John Moraga.

"Mighty Mouse" has now defended the UFC flyweight title two times. As a result, he finds himself climbing the pound-for-pound rankings rather quickly. More importantly, Johnson is beginning to set a high bar for which future flyweight champions will reach.

With his victory on Saturday, Johnson has now defeated four of the top contenders in the 125-pound class. How did his continued success impact the flyweight and pound-for-pound ladders?

With UFC on Fox 8 in the books and UFC 163 ahead, here are the latest official UFC rankings

1 of 10

Although he's now on the short list of current UFC champions with multiple title defenses, Demetrious Johnson did not move upward in the official pound-for-pound rankings.

Instead, the only movement included newly crowned middleweight champion Chris Weidman surpassing bantamweight titleholder Dominick Cruz. Having been on the shelf for nearly two years due to injuries, Cruz is beginning to lose the faith of the voting panel.

At UFC 163, featherweight champion Jose Aldo will attempt to close the gap between himself and Jon Jones by defending his belt against Chan Sung Jung.

With a bout between Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione being pushed back due to injury, no heavyweight bouts were contested at UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday.

The division will remain on break through UFC 163.

Heavyweights return to action at UFC Fight Night 26, where Alistair Overeem returns for a bout with Travis Browne. In his last outing, Overeem missed out on a title shot by suffering a massive upset at the hands of Antonio Silva.

Light Heavyweight

3 of 10

Although there were no light heavyweight bouts contested at UFC on Fox 8, a small adjustment was made to the 205-pound rankings.

As his UFC 163 bout with Lyoto Machida approaches, Phil Davis rose to the No. 7 position, which dropped Mauricio Rua. Should he upset Machida on Saturday, Davis could find himself in position for a title shot.

In addition to the bout between Davis and Machida, UFC 163 will feature two more light heavyweights contests. Most notably, Vinny Magalhaes will attempt to get back into the win column after his loss to Davis in April.

The middleweight division produced Fight of the Night honors at UFC on Fox 8, where Ed Herman and Trevor Smith slugged it out for three rounds. However, no changes in the 185-pound rankings resulted from that entertaining bout.

Multiple middleweight bouts will be featured on the UFC 163 fight card, but none of them are likely to alter the division's rankings.

The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil winner Cezar Ferreira will look for a win in his first post-TUF outing. Former UFC title challenger Thales Leites will return to the Octagon for a bout with Tom Watson. Additionally, Bristol Marunde will try to keep his spot on the UFC roster with a win over UFC newcomer Viscardi Andrade.

Rory MacDonald picked up an important win over Jake Ellenberger on Saturday, but it didn't put him any closer to the top of the welterweight rankings. Because he jabbed his way to a decision win, many fans and pundits were left unimpressed with MacDonald's performance.

With his loss, Ellenberger fell to No. 5 in the rankings, dropping below the surging Demian Maia.

Robbie Lawler scored an impressive knockout win on Saturday, but a victory over Bobby Voelker did not do much to improve his standing following a prior knockout victory over No. 10 welterweight contender Josh Koscheck.

At UFC 163, Sergio Moraes and Neil Magny will represent the welterweight division in a bout that shouldn't affect the 170-pound rankings.

Though five lightweight bouts were contested at UFC on Fox 8, the division's rankings remained unchanged.

That being said, Jorge Masvidal and Melvin Guillard inched closer to the top 10 with stoppage victories. With a couple more wins, the two could find themselves back in title contention.

No 155-pound fights will be shown at UFC 163, but a highly anticipated rematch between Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis approaches.

There were no featherweight bouts to be seen at UFC on Fox 8.

However, 145-pound contests don't come much bigger than the one on Saturday between champion Jose Aldo and Chan Sung Jung. Aldo was originally scheduled to meet Anthony Pettis at UFC 163, but an injury to the previously booked challenger allowed Jung to step in.

Rani Yahya will also look to take a step closer to a title shot at UFC 163, where he'll fight Josh Clopton.

Yaotzin Meza picked up his first UFC win on Saturday, when he submitted John Albert, who will likely be released as a result of his lengthy losing streak.

Obviously, Meza has a long way to go before he can start sniffing the top-10 rankings. However, this was a step in the right direction at a time when the bantamweight division is looking for new faces to step up and make names for themselves.

No bantamweight bouts will be contested at UFC 163.

Demetrious Johnson retained his crown at UFC on Fox 8, making it look easy against the No. 4 flyweight contender in John Moraga.

Despite his loss, Moraga did not fall in the 125-pound rankings.

The flyweight division will remain in the spotlight at UFC 163, where two top-10 fighters will appear in separate bouts. Ian McCall will go after his first UFC win in a bout with Iliarde Santos, while John Lineker aims for title contention and a win over Jose Maria.
