Scott Niedermayer: Conn Smythe Winner As Ducks Repeat for Cup Champs

Ken ArmerSenior Writer IApril 10, 2008

It is said that "Offense wins games and defense wins championships" and i must say that I agree. Having played hockey since age twelve i can comment that this was true of when i played as well. A defense is the never say die face of a hockey team. Hockey dynasties of the past were built around defense including the 90's Devils of which Scott Niedermayer was a part and a leader of not only the defensive corps but also the team.

From the moment Niedermayer joined the Ducks i knew they would become a force to be reckoned with in the West and has he ever proved me correct. He led the Ducks as their Captain to a Stanley Cup last year and will surely be the backbone of the team on the blue line again this year. There are several defensemen like Niedermayer in the NHL, and all are classy lead by example kind of guys. He is a battle hardened blue liner with plenty of Cup experience to pass on to a balanced young blue line like the Ducks have.
