TNA Impact Wrestling: Rumors, News, Bound for Glory Update and July 25 Preview

Donald Wood@@Donald_WoodFeatured ColumnistJuly 24, 2013

After one of the wildest episodes of Impact Wrestling—last Thursday’s edition of TNA featured the Destination X pay-per-view on free TV—the company must follow up with another unforgettable show.

TNA has created serious momentum with Chris Sabin winning the title and the X Division battles, and in order for the company to capitalize on that success, it must ensure that the casual and hardcore fans alike are appeased by this Thursday’s action.

Add in the continued build toward the Bound for Glory PPV in October, and there is no doubt that this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling will be something special.

Where: Broadbent Arena, Louisville, Ky.

When: Thursday, July 25, at 9 p.m. ET (pre-taped)

Watch: Spike TV

Chris Sabin’s First Show as World Champion

There were few wrestling fans that believed former tag team and X Division champion Chris Sabin would beat Bully Ray last week, but with the help of the hammer shot heard ‘round the world, the leader of Aces and Eights had been dethroned. After such a stunning development in the Aces and Eights storyline, fans are clamoring to see what’s next for the heel stable and new champ.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What’s Next for Aces and Eights?

While Sabin walked away with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, it is abundantly clear that this storyline is more about the Aces and Eights than it is about putting over the first-time champion.

With just a few months until Bound for Glory, Sabin’s victory could mark the beginning of the end for the heel stable. Wrestling fans should expect to see dissension amongst the ranks of the gang begin this week.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Past-Due Storyline Resolutions

The Aces and Eights storyline has been going on for well over a year now, and seeing the beginning of the end is something that all fans of TNA should be ready to see. As great as Bully Ray has been as the heel leader of the stable, the end of the road is approaching fast.

Sabin will hold the championship heading into the Bound for Glory PPV—where he’ll likely drop it to one of the company’s top stars—and that will leave Bully Ray open for a different feud.

Look for the Hulk Hogan return to the ring to fight Bully Ray to be announced sooner rather than later, and look for the foreshadowing of the battle to continue this week. Now that Bully doesn’t have the belt, the door is wide open for Hogan to defend his daughter’s honor against her soon-to-be ex-husband.

The New X Division Champion Will be Crowned

Sabin was the second man to cash in his X Division Championship for a chance at the World title and win it, and three more men will fight for the chance Thursday to wear the company’s secondary belt. Add in the fact that it will be three unique wrestlers in the ring together—Sonjay Dutt vs. Manik vs. Greg Marasciulo—and this will be an exciting bout.

Question on Everybody’s Mind: Which Star Will Become New X Division Champion?

While handing Trent Baretta Greg Marasciulo the title in his second show with the company would be a great way to spark intrigue amongst wrestling fans, there is no question that it should be Sonjay Dutt who finally captures the title that has eluded him throughout his career.

No person in TNA history deserves to win the X Division Championship more than Dutt.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Career-Making Moments

The idea of watching Dutt pull down the title belt in the Ultimate X match should have real wrestling fans that have followed TNA for a long time appreciative of the possibility. As great as that moment would be for Dutt and the fans, there is always a chance that the company made a promise to Marasciulo when it signed him that he could become the champion.

While previous decisions like handing a title to a new guy who deserves it less than a longtime veteran have plagued the company over the years, the hope is that the recent string of firings, per Wrestling Inc., will revitalize the writing team and get the train back on the right track.
