Jonathan Vickers, 3-star running back recruit from Tallahassee, Fla., has decided to commit to the hometown Florida State Seminoles.

Chris Nee of 247Sports reports on the commitment:

Vickers announced the decision on a local news station by donning a Florida State hat. He shared his reasons for selecting the Seminoles.

"(FSU's) reputation for academics is just incredible," Vickers said. "I love their coach, Jimbo Fisher, and running backs coach, Coach (Jay) Graham. I got to know those guys pretty well. So they were just family oriented. Facilities and everything. So that was pretty great."

Vickers is the No. 34 running back and the No. 69 player from the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Running back is a power position in this class, so even though he's 34 deep, FSU is still getting a good player.

The Seminoles are also getting an in-state player, and even more importantly, a hometown kid.

The importance of pipelines can't be understated in college football recruiting, especially when that pipeline is your own backyard.

Jimbo Fisher and his staff have done a great job recruiting this cycle, and that's somewhat of an understatement. Florida State boasts the No. 3 class according to the 247Sports team rankings, only behind a surging Tennessee program and the juggernaut, Alabama.

The Seminoles have 19 commitments, highlighted by 5-star inside linebacker Kain Daub, 4-star wideout Markell Pack and 4-star outside linebacker Jacob Pugh, among others.

This is a class that has the potential to be elite, and combined with Florida State's 2013 recruiting haul, the Seminoles could be well on their way to championship contention. At the very least, Florida State is setting itself up to be dominant in the ACC

Including Vickers, Florida State's class features 13 recruits from the state of Florida, three from Tallahassee.

Vickers goes to North Florida Christian High School.
