After a tumultuous start on the first hole where he bogeyed after hitting his tee shot into the rough, Tiger Woods recovered to shoot -2 in his first round at The Open Championship.
Woods used a stretch of three birdies on four holes on the back nine to rebound and put himself in position to pounce on the second day of the major championship.
Throughout his round, Woods made several crucial par putts, including many on the front nine, to keep himself in contention on a golf course that played like a U.S. Open more than a British Open on Thursday.
Woods will open his second round at 4:44 a.m. ET on Friday with playing partner Graeme McDowell.
