World Football Idiot of the Week

It’s official. Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcântara for an initial €20 million, per FCBayern.de.

The news will obviously please Bayern Munich, their new manager Pep Guardiola and their legions of fans. But what about Barcelona? Will the Spanish champions be fine without one of their more promising young stars?

After winning the league by 15 points last season, Barcelona will clearly be fine. But that doesn’t mean the Catalans won’t miss Thiago, who won the Golden Boot as the best overall player at this summer’s Euro Under-21 Championship.

What’s more, Barca didn’t receive the full release clause that was originally stipulated in Thiago’s contract, per the Associated Press.

Why not? Well, that’s part of the story in this week’s B/R World Football Idiot of the Week. After watching B/R World Football Lead Writer Michael Cummings make his selection, be sure to add your thoughts to the comments section.
