Tiger Woods played a practice round at Muirfield Golf Club Sunday, the site of the 142nd Open Championship, with a very special spectator following along.
His significant other, Lindsey Vonn, got a little exercise to rehab her injured leg and watched Woods practice before the Open Championship starts this week.
Woods and Vonn are both world-class athletes. Woods' 78 career PGA Tour titles and 14 major championships place him at the very top of the golf world.
Vonn is an Olympic skier who has won gold and three consecutive World Cup Overall skiing titles from 2008-10.
Vonn and Woods have been an item for several months, and their relationship appears to be growing ever stronger.
Is it any coincidence that Woods has won four PGA Tour events in 2013 and seven titles over the last 17 months?
Athletes need to be confident in their ability to perform every time they compete. Personal problems and a less-than-perfect home life off the field or golf course can lead to less-than-total concentration and poor performance.
Woods is definitely in a very good place right now. He is rebounding from his off-course, personal problems and messy divorce. Vonn appears to have restored a stable and comfortable home life for him.
PGA Tour wives and/or significant others do not normally tag along inside the ropes at any golf tournament, let alone one of the most watched and hallowed golf tournaments of the year.
Vonn tagging along with Woods at Muirfield may be a good sign that he is relaxed, confident and ready to resume winning major tournaments.
Somehow though, I just cannot imagine Ben Hogan or even Tom Watson strolling around the Auld Course or Muirfield with their honey at their side.
