Manchester United has not had much activity so far in the transfer window, but one move that is almost completed is certain to be a good one.
According to Tancredi Palmeri of CNN Italy, the club is set to sign Ezequiel Garay from Benfica:

Charles Perrin of the Daily Express also reports that there has been a "gentlemen's agreement" between the two sides and quotes Italian paper Tuttomercato in saying there is a deal for £17.2 million.
If this move is eventually completed, it is a great acquisition for Manchester United.
Garay is as solid as they come as a centre-back and has proved himself time and again against some of the best competition in the world as a regular for Benfica and the Argentinian national team.
Last season, he helped his Portuguese club achieve a great deal of team success. Benfica finished one point behind FC Porto in the league to earn second place and another appearance in the Champions League.
His contributions were seen on the scoreboard as the club only allowed 20 goals in 30 league matches.
What grade would you give this move for Manchester United?
While it is often hard to give credit to specific players, Garay showed his skill against European competition. According to WhoScored.com, the defender had an average rating of 7.01 in Champions League and Europa League matches, proving he could play with any team in the world.
These performances certainly helped Benfica reach the Europa League final before falling to Chelsea.
After struggling at times on the defensive end last season, Manchester United could seriously use an experienced player like this who has a history of winning matches.
Last season, United was able to win the English Premier League thanks mostly to an outstanding offense led by Robin van Persie. However, the first-place club finished only tied for fifth in goals allowed with 43.
Additionally, the three goals allowed in two matches against Real Madrid hurt the squad's ability to make a deep run in Champions League.
To make things worse for the Old Trafford club, captain Nemanja Vidic has dealt with injuries over the past couple of years and is currently missing the preseason tour due to sciatica.
Therefore, the club does not only need more consistency, but also more depth in the back line. Adding Garay would help solve both of those problems while also securing the position for the future. At 26 years old, the defender still has plenty of good years ahead of him.
According to Sky Sports, manager David Moyes recently said that there are no budget constraints in this transfer period and that he can get any player he wants. While there are plenty of other options available, Garay is a great choice as an addition to the club.
Hopefully for Manchester United, nothing holds up this deal from being completed.
